Ed’s Supply Helps Customers Transition to New A2L Refrigerant

On January 1, 2025, new standards for manufacturing with refrigerants will go into effect.  As the HVAC industry approaches the 2025 deadline, it is essential to consider how these regulatory changes will affect project timelines, budgets, and equipment performance. According to Ed’s Supply Senior Technical Trainer, Steven Phillips, “Our goal is to help Increase technicians’ awareness of A2L refrigerants. We are committed to assisting them with navigating through the changes.” Steven continues by saying, “It is fairly safe to say that many of the procedures contractors use today to install systems using R-410A will, for the most part, be the same when installing a system using an A2L refrigerant just with some minor changes.”

Ed’s Supply will be hosting classes at every Branch throughout the Fall.  We will also bring customer content to individual businesses on request. This training will walk through the key things technicians need to know for successful installations and service of A2L refrigerants.  Additionally there will be a thorough review of safety, transportation, handling, installation and service best practices for A2L refrigerants.

Some of the questions Ed’s Supply sponsored training will address is as follows:

  • Are A2L refrigerants more likely to cause a fire
  • If a cylinder gets too hot, will the rupture disk blow, filling up my truck and causing an explosion
  • If a leak occurs, do I need to remove the entire charge, fix the leak and start again
  • Do I have to take another EPA exam
  • Will l need to buy all-new tools
  • Can I add A2L refrigerants to a system designed for A1 refrigerants
